FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE OUTSTANDING ORGANIC ECOCOVER® MULCH MAT SAVES WATER AND MONEY Produced from waste paper, fully compostable and 100% biodegradable, EcoCover fertilizer enriched mulch mats are a world's first in providing a cost-effective substitute for plastic materials for controlling weeds and conserving water. “The most exciting thing about EcoCover is that it’s more than just effective weed control,” says EcoCover Director Murray Cruickshank. “EcoCover conserves water, promotes plant growth, moderates soil temperature, reduces soil erosion, eliminates or reduces herbicide use and is able to be used as a carrier of beneficial additives for the soil." "The icing on the cake is that EcoCover is also certified organic, compostable and fully biodegradable," Cruickshank said. AgriQuality, New Zealand’s leading organic certifier, IFOAM accredited, has approved EcoCover for organic certification.
EcoCover is manufactured primarily from reclaimed paper taken directly from the landfill waste stream and certain adhesives, which are reprocessed into a wide variety of products.
The most popular EcoCover product is the mulch mat, made from 87% recycled waste content. The mat is easy to handle, cut to size, and lay. Much like conventional plastic matting, EcoCover prohibits weed growth, but its benefits don’t end there. EcoCover’s New Zealand manufacturers have recently developed a method of embedding liquid organic fertilizer into the EcoCover mulch mat, so the product now performs a unique dual role of weed suppressor and organic nutrient supplier. More than two years of research by two leading universities, the Southern Cross University (Australia) and Massey University (New Zealand), has scientifically and independently proven all of the EcoCover product attributes. EcoCover can significantly reduce the labor input for weeding and digging activities in relation to weed control where organic management practices prohibit the use of herbicides. Unlike other mulches, the EcoCover mat does not have to be removed – it can simply be ploughed into the ground, where it benefits the soil. EcoCover will completely break down or decay over time, leaving neither harmful residual evidence nor contaminants of any type in the soil. “The implications of this product are huge for forestry, vineyards, nurseries, organic growers…in fact, anybody trying to grow anything!” says Cruickshank. “We’ve only just begun to spread the word about EcoCover, and the response has been tremendous. It’s nice to know that a little New Zealand-owned company is producing a product that could revolutionize international agriculture, and have a positive impact on the environment at the same time.” EcoCover (NZ) Limited intends to identify like minded parties who have a desire to benefit the environment through the use of our technology and wish to purchase manufacturing plants for their own use. A manufacturing plant costs approximately US$1.4m delivered. Interested parties are invited to view the website at: http://www.ecocover.co.nz/.
