BATTERIES NOT NEEDED: ADOPT AN ENDANGERED SEA TURTLE FOR SOMEONE YOU LOVE, AND GIVE A GIFT FOR THE FUTURE FOR SEA TURTLES
GAINESVILLE, FL, November 10, 2005 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- When the holidays are over, the wrapping paper stowed away and this year's must-have hot gift all-but forgotten, your gift of an endangered sea turtle is sure to delight, inform and inspire the whole year long. In addition to a colorful adoption packet, adoptions include a yearlong, renewable membership in the nonprofit Caribbean Conservation Corporation - the world's oldest and most accomplished sea turtle research and protection group.
In addition to the adoption kit, which includes a personalized adoption certificate, sea turtle conservation guide, logo magnet and sticker, and introductory issue of CCC's newsletter - all in a full-color sea turtle folder - members receive a year-long subscription to The Velador, our quarterly publication that keeps members inspired and updated on crucial sea turtle issues.
"Thank you very much!!! My sister absolutely loves her adopted turtle Diva…I can't even explain how happy she was," says a member who adopted a turtle as a gift.
There are two categories of sea turtles available for adoption, "satellite-tracked" and "name-your-own." Satellite-tracked turtles are fitted with state-of-the-art satellite telemetry transmitters, designed to send signals each time the turtle comes to the surface for air. Regularly updated maps are posted on our website so adoptive parents can keep track of their turtles for at least as long as the transmitters keep working.
Name-your-own adoptions allow you to name a unique, individual sea turtle that can only be adopted by one person. Green turtles from our research station in Tortuguero, Costa Rica, who have been tagged by our researchers, are available for naming. Since these turtles are only available for adoption once, the adoptive parent's name is forever associated with the turtle. Some previously-tagged turtles are still spotted nesting 25 years after they were first tagged.
Can't decide? Give the recipient a choice, and he or she will receive a form explaining the adoption styles and giving them the option to choose which type of turtle they want to support.
Your gift also makes it possible for CCC to continue its mission of conservation, research, education and advocacy.
"Our members not only make it fiscally possible for us to continue our efforts, from our research programs in Costa Rica and Panama to advocating for coastal protection in Florida," says David Godfrey, Executive Director of CCC, "but their enthusiasm inspires us to keep up the work."
You can set up an adoption online at www.cccturtle.org or by calling CCC at 800-678-7853.
