ONE SIZE FITS ALL: ADOPT AN ENDANGERED SEA TURTLE AS A HOLIDAY GIFT!
GAINESVILLE, Florida, November 10, 2004 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Every year it gets harder to find unique and meaningful holiday gifts. This year, the nonprofit Sea Turtle Survival League is offering something special for everyone on your gift list. Whether for a conservation-minded mom, computer savvy dads or for children who already have more toys than they can fit in their closets, adopting an endangered sea turtle from the Sea Turtle Survival League shows the people in your life you care about them and the protection of our environment.
Here's how the Adopt-A-Turtle program works:
- For a tax-deductible donation of at least $25, the Sea Turtle Survival League (STSL) will send gift recipients an attractive and fun turtle adoption packet, which includes a personalized adoption certificate and photo of the turtle, a sea turtle conservation guide, a colorful sticker and a magnet, all in a beautiful full-color folder. Recipients also will get a one-year subscription to the STSL's quarterly sea turtle newsletter. Plus, gift givers can tailor the packets to each recipient by choosing from a variety of included turtle-theme gifts.
- STSL's Adopt-A-Turtle program offers two types of sea turtles for adoption. The first are endangered turtles whose migrations are being tracked by satellite as part of an ongoing research project. This popular program allows anyone with Internet access to follow their turtle's movements (for up to a year) through CCC website: www.cccturtle.org. The other option is to adopt an endangered turtle that has simply been tagged by STSL researchers. These turtles can't be tracked on-line, but each one will have just a single adoptive guardian and each will be given permanent names by gift recipients. Future information about the turtles will be shared as they are spotted year after year returning to nest on tropical beaches.
- Proceeds from turtle adoptions support the oldest and most accomplished sea turtle conservation group in the world. STSL is a part of the nonprofit Caribbean Conservation Corporation (CCC). Founded in 1959 by renowned turtle expert Dr. Archie Carr, CCC is dedicated to the study and protection of sea turtles through scientific research, education, advocacy and the protection of natural habitats.
