FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A Long Journey to TED
LONG BEACH, CA, March 1, 2011 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Australian entrepreneur and philanthropist Bill Liao has travelled from Europe by container ship to emphasize the environmental message of his short talk at TED in Long Beach on March 1st.
In order to galvanize people into action, Bill decided to give something up that would have an immediate impact : he gave up flying, after having accumulated over 3 million frequent flyer miles across 5 different programs. That was a major change in his world and it has meant some very tough choices.
He committed not to fly again until the charity he founded WeForest.org achieves its goals. To get to Long Beach he travelled by ferry, train, container ship and bus.
"So far though I can say that giving up something I loved to do, while it has presented its challenges, has also greatly supported the work we are doing to make reforestation a global movement and with the UN year of forest upon us I invite everyone to take a slow journey with a long view and plant a tree," said Liao.
Don't miss some details of his trip and how planting trees can restore our children's planet. Should a tree be planted for each soft drink sold in the world, it would only take us until 2014 to plant the 2 trillion trees needed to cool our planet!
Join us on www.weforest.org to plant trees and see our new Jeremy Irons video!

WeForest was founded by entrepreneur and philanthropist Bill Liao and is a non-profit in both Switzerland and Belgium. It is a member of the United Nations Global Compact and is recognized by the King Baudouin Foundation. WeForest promotes sustainable forestry, which plays a vital role in ensuring the stability of our planet - supporting ecosystems, maintaining the integrity of soil and habitats, and providing food, employment, and shelter for local people.
TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. TED holds two annual conferences - the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer.
