BLUE Ocean Film Festival Live Coverage Online

Twice daily live webcasts on Oceanslive.org

Blue MONTEREY, CA, August 25, 2010 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- BLUE Ocean Film Festival, presented by Monterey Bay Aquarium through August 29 in Monterey, CA, will present live webcasts on Oceanslive.org beginning Wednesday, August 25.

BLUE Ocean Film Festival is a one-of-a-kind film industry and community event bringing together films, filmmakers and leaders in ocean research and conservation.

The Oceanslive.org webcast team will broadcast live on location at 10:00 am Pacific (11:00 Mountain, noon Central, 1:00 pm Eastern) and 2:00 pm Pacific (3:00 Mountain, 4:00 Central, 5:00 Eastern) on August 25, 26, 27, 28 and 29. Programs will be archived on the site throughout the festival.

"We are excited to offer this dynamic Internet-based resource in partnership with BLUE," said Daniel J. Basta, director of NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries. "Oceanslive.org allows the public to experience BLUE Ocean Film Festival while learning more about the natural and cultural treasures of our national marine sanctuaries and the underwater world."

Oceanslive.org programs will feature guest interviews, speakers, film discussions, and the BLUE Carpet Awards Ceremony, streaming live on the Web. The OceanLIVE team includes Web and outreach professionals from NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries and the Inner Space Center, Ocean Science and Exploration Center, University of Rhode Island.

Finalists selected from an unprecedented number of entries include more than 100 ocean-related films in 19 categories. Three films will premier at BLUE. SOLA is a documentary of the dramatic environmental impacts of the Southern Louisiana coastal ecosystem. Beneath the Blue stars Paul Wesley, Caitlin Wachs and David Keith in a story about dolphin scientists, sonar and espionage. Confessions of an Eco Terrorist tells the story of activists, animal saviors and sea rebels through the eyes of Peter Brown.

Disneynature's epic documentary Oceans offers a never-before-seen look beneath the sea. Ultimate Wave Tahiti featuring Kelly Slater, blending surfing with ocean science, screens in IMAX 3D. Acid Test, narrated by Sigourney Weaver, explores ocean acidification and its effects with stunning underwater cinematography. Ocean Men, by award-winning cinematographer Bob Talbot, is a fascinating look into extreme diving. 180 South is a dramatic documentary of adventurers retracing environmentalists Doug Tompkins and Yvon Chouinard's life-changing 1968 journey to Patagonia.

These and more of the world's best ocean films will be screened at six Monterey Peninsula theaters. A film industry conference and a conservation summit round out the robust array of activities and events. BLUE will host photography exhibits, seminars, business of filmmaking panels and presentations, pitching sessions, film and photography equipment demos, VIP parties and networking events.

Featured guests include Julie Packard, Sylvia Earle, Jean-Michel Cousteau, David Doubilet, Don Haun, Howard Hall, Bob Talbot, Graham Hawkes, Greg Stone and other film and environmental ocean leaders. A featured forum "Gulf Oil Spill: Tragedy or Turning Point?" will be hosted by Carl Safina.
