ENGINEERING UNPLUGGED GREEN EVENT TO BRING BUILDING/MANUFACTURING/RESEARCH PROFESSIONALS TO OLD DOMINION UNIVERSITY ON 3/17/09

Engineering Unplugged NORFOLK, VA, March 10, 2009 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Engineering Unplugged, the premier and first-of-its-kind green conference in Hampton Roads, presented by the Professional Development Center (PDC) of Old Dominion University, is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Ted Constant Convocation Center at Old Dominion University’s Norfolk Campus.

“Going Green” is no longer a trend-– it’s real, it’s the future. From mandates by President Obama, the focus and funding in the next four years will be toward green building, green manufacturing and green research. And that is exactly what the ODU Professional Development Center’s “Engineering Unplugged” green conference is all about. Stephen Walz, Director of the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy, states, “This conference is in direct alignment with Governor Kaine’s yearlong initiative, Renew Virginia. Clair Dorsey, director of the PDC, says, “Engineering Unplugged is structured around three educational tracks - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Energy Conservation and Future Initiatives. It will present information appealing to a variety of audiences: architects, engineers, designers, construction specialists, manufacturers, facility managers, military, researchers and other professionals.”

Speakers include experts from The Green Building Council – the regulators of LEED Certification, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the US Department of Energy; the Hampton Roads Green Building Council; the Department of Environmental Quality; and professors from ODU and the University of Virginia.

Luncheon Guest Speaker: William A. Draves, internationally recognized author, consultant, and President of the Learning Resources Network. Draves is one of the most quoted experts on lifelong/online learning by the US media, including "The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, NBC and Wired.com.

Engineering Unplugged will provide green building/ manufacturing/research professionals new tools to:
