YELLOWSTONE RENDEZVOUS TO CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WILDERNESS ACT

BOZEMAN, MT, August 24, 2004 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- A celebration to commemorate 40 years of the Wilderness Act, passed in 1964, and the future of wilderness, wildlife and watersheds in the Northern Rockies Bioregion, Friday, October 1, 2004 in Bozeman, Montana, hosted by Alliance for the Wild Rockies.

Everyone is Welcome: Grassroots activists, musicians, artists, Members, friends (Please no dogs, other domestic pets, or fireworks)

This is a one-day event, rain or shine, so plan your personal weekend of fishing, floating, hiking, mountain biking or lounging in the splendor of Indian summer in Yellowstone country. The Lee Metcalf Wilderness, Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park are all nearby to enjoy. Or how about the Gallatin, Yellowstone, or Madison for you river enthusiasts?

This year's gathering will be held at Botanica Fine Art and Flowers, 4750 Jordan Spur Road, located 6 miles north of Bozeman, Montana, on the western slope of the Bridger Mountains. Just a few miles from Gallatin "International" Airport, the Bridger Range is a U.S. Forest Service roadless area that will be designated Wilderness with the passage of the Northern Rockies Ecosystem Protection Act (NREPA). There is a public trailhead into the Bridgers 1.5 miles east of the Rendezvous site.

Directions:

From I-90 take the North 19th Street/Springhill Road Exit; take Springhill Road north for 2 miles; turn right (east) onto Sypes Canyon Road for 2 miles; turn left (north) onto Summer Cuttoff Road for 1.5 miles; turn right (east) onto Saddle Mountain Road for 1.5 miles; turn right onto Jordan Spur Road. Watch for the signs! Botanica Fine Art and Flowers is the red barn, 1st driveway on the left. See map

Celebration starts at 12 Noon

Noon—5 p.m. Member Group updates, informal conversations and discussions on issues and strategies, sharing successes and preparing for upcoming challenges
**Horseshoes, volleyball and hiking will be available throughout the afternoon**
5:00 p.m. Happy Hour with Cash Bar
6:00 p.m. Free BBQ Dinner
8:00 p.m. Free live performance by the Mike Bader Blues Band playing original music from the new CD, Clearcut Case of the Blues
Campfire stories held throughout the evening

As true now as it was then, the Yellowstone Rendezvous is a great opportunity to share stories and strategies, lift our spirits and celebrate the greatest human invention of the 20th Century: Wilderness.
