UNIVERSITY PRESS OF NEW ENGLAND PUBLISHES MAJOR NEW WORK ON THE ROLE OF POLITICAL ACTIVISM IN THE FIGHT TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING

LEBANON, NH, August 22, 2007 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Eban Goodstein is the Project Director of "Focus the Nation," a major educational initiative that coordinates teams of faculty, students, and staff at over a thousand colleges, universities, and high schools in the United States, to engage in a nationwide discussion on "Global Warming Solutions for America."

The project will culminate January 31, 2008, in the form of a one-day, national symposium held simultaneously on campuses across the country. His new book, Fighting for Love in the Century of Extinction: How Passion and Politics Can Stop Global Warming is a passionate plea for saving the environment and a pragmatic argument for the central role political activism must play if we are to stop global warming.

"This book moves Goodstein from being a pied-piper of the climate movement to one of its prophets." - Ross Gelbspan, author, The Heat Is On and Boiling Point

For several decades the University Press of New England (UPNE) has published the works of noted nature writers such as David Gessner, Peter Marchand, and William Sargent, as well as field guides by Richard DeGraaf, Diane Gibbons, Charles Johnson, and others.

More recently, Jeffrey W. Hughes, a professor in the school of natural resources at University of Vermont, tackles tough questions on the "people factor" in environmental challenges in his new book, Environmental Problem Solving: A How-To Guide.

Noted naturalist Tom Wessels's latest work, The Myth of Progress: Toward a Sustainable Future, demonstrates how our current path towards progress, based on continual economic expansion and inefficient use of resources, runs contrary to three foundational scientific laws - the Laws of Sustainability - that govern all complex natural systems.

Reaching beyond the Northeast, these three new authors and their important books are part of UPNE's expanding collection of writings on national environmental awareness initiatives.

UPNE is passionate about our environment and to show you how much - and to celebrate the August 31, 2007 publication of Fighting for Love in the Century of Extinction - we're offering up to a 50% discount on these books and all our nature and environment titles until September 8, 2007.
