And so the Orient Express Bike Tour was born; a 4000- kilometre journey from Paris to Istanbul that travels through 8 magnificent European countries. Having reached Istanbul, the team started thinking about riding all the way to Beijing. For the first time this year, a group of riders will attempt to cycle 10 000 kilometres across Asia and into China, following the ancient trading route between Istanbul and Beijing. In August 2007, the Silk Route Bicycle Race/Expedition will be the first modern-day human-powered caravan to attempt to retrace the legendary steps of Marco Polo and Genghis Khan.
