REDUCE EXTREME HEAT, GLOBAL WARMING, AND HEALTH RISKS WITH PARKING LOT SHADE

DAVIS, CA, August 24, 2006 --/WORLD-WIRE/--
Parking lots occupy about 10% of the land in many of our cities. Unfortunately, almost all these parking lots have inadequate tree shade and thus are major contributors to increased urban temperatures - heat islands - and smog through increased emissions of evaporative hydrocarbons from gas tanks.

These conditions contribute to global warming and pose a serious threat to human health. The answer is to plant more trees in parking lots to provide at least 50% canopy cover over lot surfaces.
