FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW WEB SITE ON BIOMONITORING TECHNOLOGY LAUNCHED Internet site is one-stop clearinghouse for information on Biomonitoring, the scientific technique for assessing human exposure to natural and synthetic chemicals MANASSAS, VA, May 17, 2005 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- The Environmental Health Research Foundation (EHRF) has announced the formal launch of http://www.biomonitoringinfo.org, a Web site providing comprehensive information about biomonitoring used for measuring and assessing human exposure to natural and synthetic chemicals. Biomonitoring is the analysis of samples of individuals' tissues and fluids, including blood, urine, breast milk and expelled air. The results of these measurements provide information about the amounts of natural and man-made chemicals that have entered and remained in the body. Scientists use biomonitoring results to guide further research into sources of human exposures and possible health effects. A Science Advisory Council of distinguished scientists and physicians experienced in various aspects of biomonitoring and related disciplines evaluates developments in the field and provides guidance on the content of the site. "With biomonitoring more and more in the news and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's third national report on human exposure to environmental chemicals due out shortly, http://www.biomonitoringinfo.org provides a single destination for scientific explanations of the nature, uses and limitations of biomonitoring data," said Science Advisory Council member Michael A. Kamrin, Ph.D., professor emeritus at Michigan State University's Institute for Environmental Toxicology and author of several sections of the site. EHRF created http://www.biomonitoringinfo.org as an online clearinghouse of information on biomonitoring for policy makers, journalists, scientists and interested citizens. The site includes several features to encourage information flow, including:
