APPLIED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN AGRICULTURE CONFERENCE TO BE HELD MAY 25 AND 26, 2004

KANSAS CITY, KA, May 11, 2004 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Time is running out to register for a national two-day conference focusing on environmental management systems (EMS) and how they relate to production agriculture, grazing lands, and food production and processing. The conference will be held May 25 and 26, 2004 in Kansas City at the Hilton Garden Inn Kansas City/Kansas.

This conference is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, SES, Inc. of Lenexa, Kansas, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, National Milk Producers Federation, National Association of State Departments of Agriculture, the Agricultural Business Council of Kansas City, an affiliate of the American Royal Association and the National Agriculture Compliance Assistance Center. In addition, this conference is promoted by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Kansas Farm Bureau, Missouri Farm Bureau and Nebraska Farm Bureau.

This important conference will feature speakers from across North America that will address environmental management issues in major agricultural sectors and promote a practical discussion on environmental management systems (EMS) already being implemented. Conference topics include economic and incentives related to agriculture, EMS implementation, and verification and measurement of impact. Discussion will also include current programs, such as Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans (CNMPs) and carbon trading, which can be used as a starting point for the development of an EMS.

The conference will include an exhibit area to highlight consultants and other organizations that can assist the agriculture community develop, implement or verify an EMS as well as those that can provide EMS training. Ina addition, a poster session has been added the evening of May 25 to accommodate requests by producers, universities, state organizations and non-profit groups. This session will highlight innovative environmental projects as well as experiences with EMS implementation. Poster session space is available at no cost to these groups with their conference registration.

Conference attendees will include medium to large agriculture producers, processors and farmers; environmental and agricultural consultants; local, federal and state government personnel; commodity organizations; agricultural and environmental organizations; and agricultural service providers.

Scholarships are available to allow multiple individuals for non-profit organizations attend the conference. When a non-profit organization registers one person for the conference, one additional person may attend for no charge. The additional funding is limited so please register early. Both individuals need to complete a registration form and note that they are using the 2 for 1.
