FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CHILDREN'S CHAMPION TO RECEIVE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AWARD IN NEW YORK ALGONQUIN, IL, April 8, 2005 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- The Chlorine Free Products Association (CFPA) is honored to present the Steward Award to international singer-songwriter Raffi Cavoukian, a longtime champion of children, ecology and the security of future generations. The award will be presented at a reception in New York on April 14, 2005. Known to millions as the children's troubadour, Raffi has entertained countless fans with songs full of positive messages and memorable melodies. For the past decade he has been a global advocate for children, advancing his philosophy of Child Honoring. Child Honoring is both a way of life and an organizing principle for a culture of peace - a revolution in values that calls for a profound redesign of society. "We can best create a humane and sustainable world," Raffi says, "by addressing the needs of the very young. It starts with respect for the child as a whole person. That leads us to question everything, from the corporate presence in our schools to our stewardship of the planet and the way we measure economic progress - even the paper we use." The CFPA Steward Award recognizes individuals, corporations, governments, and other organizations based on their dynamic leadership roles in fostering social, environmental and economic responsibility. "It is a great privilege for me to present the Steward Award to a long time champion of children and ecology - Raffi Cavoukian," said Archie Beaton Executive Director of the CFPA. "Raffi is a member of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the UN's Earth Achievement Award. His ecology album 'Evergreen Everblue' is my favorite." Because chlorine bleaching creates persistent pollutants that pose a serious health threat, particularly to children, Raffi has worked tirelessly for over 10 years to support and encourage the use of chlorine-free papers. His company, Troubadour Music Inc., uses chlorine-free products in all aspects of its work, and secured from Random House a contractual obligation to publish all Raffi's children's books on chlorine-free paper. Troubadour convinced Rounder Records and Universal Music Canada to do the same for all the printed components of Raffi's CDs and DVDs. ABOUT RAFFI One of North America's best-known singer-songwriters--and known to millions as Raffi, the Children's Troubadour--Raffi Cavoukian is Chair of the Troubadour Foundation and Founder of the Child Honoring philosophy. Raffi holds an honorary degree in music from the University of Victoria. He is a member of the Order of Canada and a recipient of the UN's Earth Achievement Award.
