FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONSERVE RESOURCES: WATER AND YOUR MONEY Water saving AQUSTM to be introduced at AWWA conference ALBUQUERQUE, NM, February 6, 2006 --/WORLD-WIRE/-- Citing water reuse as the world's greatest untapped natural resource, WaterSaver Technologies today introduced the AQUS which reuses water that drains from bathroom sinks to flush toilets. The AQUS will be unveiled to North America's water professionals at the American Water Works Association's 2006 Water Sources Conference and Exposition.
The patented AQUS system captures water from bathroom sinks, filters and disinfects it, and pumps it into toilet tanks. The AQUS was designed for easy installation to existing fixtures and low maintenance, filling a void among consumer water conservation products.
Conserving water has become more important as water utilities throughout the U.S. restrict usage and increase rates. With 74 percent of all home water usage in bathrooms, the AQUS helps save money in reduced water consumption charges and wastewater or sewer fees (typically based on water volume used). AQUS works in conjunction with existing plumbing The two-part AQUS is hardly noticeable and does not alter the normal operation of sinks and toilets. The AQUS reservoir tucks beneath existing sinks and works in conjunction with typical pipe fixtures to hold up to 5 ½ gallons of water that drains from the sink. A filter keeps hair and other solids from entering the toilet. Disinfection tablets control bacteria and other contaminants. Inside the toilet tank, the AQUS fill control unit keeps fresh water from filling the tank by holding the fill valve in the off position. That allows captured water held in the reservoir under the sink to fill the toilet tank. A water hose connects the reservoir to the fill control unit, using gravity, water pressure and a small electrical pump to move water from the vanity to the toilet. At a suggested retail cost of $195 for one residential bathroom, AQUS comes with all the parts needed and takes one to two hours to install. Tests prove savings AQUS can reduce metered water usage in a two-person household by as much as 20 gallons a day-approximately 5,000 gallons a year, according to Mark Sanders, WaterSaver Technologies' chairman and AQUS inventor. Added savings also come from reduced wastewater volumes at homes served by sewers. After developing the first prototype in 1999, WaterSaver Technologies perfected the product and installed test systems in Colorado, Kentucky and New Mexico homes and offices. Results of these tests were promising, with water savings ranging from 3 to 20 gallons a day. Although low-flow toilets and showerheads are on the market, Sanders said he's not aware of another small-scale system that captures and reuses water from bathroom sinks to flush toilets. About 5 percent of all domestic water consumption runs from the lavatory faucet into the sink, and eventually into the sewer. Founded in 2001, WaterSaver Technologies is dedicated to preserving natural resources and saving customers money through innovations in water conservation.
